Water is composed of one oxygen molecule and two hydrogen molecules. They are held together through a covalent bond where electrons are shared between the molecules. Oxygen has a High electronegativity so it pulls the shared electrons closer to its self. This causes the oxygen pole to be slightly negative and he hydrogen pole to be slightly positive.
