Why was building the aswan dam was a good idea?

The dam was meant that there is plenty of fresh and clean drinking water for the people of Egypt the Aswan dam is also hydroelectric power station it was 12 turbines or engines which produced 10 billion kilowatts of electricity every year. factories also used the water for cooling and for making things. The Aswan Dam keeps the depth of water in the Nile at the same level throughout every year.
