First, you would subtract 3 from both sides. This would leave you with 4x^2-8x-3. Then you would multiply 4 and 3 to leave the x by itself. You would end up with x^2-8x-12. You would then factor it out. However, you cannot factor this out so you would have to use quadratic formula. Once you are done using the quadratic formula, you should be left with your answers as -8 + √112 / 2 and -8 - √112 / 2.
