Well - we can do a fraction for the number of our birds that were hawks. Perhaps that is what you are asking.

12 out of 58 birds were hawks.

We write that:

12/58 (think of the slash as the words "out of")

Reduce that fraction. The GCF of 12 & 58 is 2. @o I will divide the numerator and denominator by 2 leaving:

6/29 of the birds we saw were hawks. Or 6 out of 29 of the birds...
