The chemical reaction between methyl oleate and hydrogen produces methyl stearate via hydrogenation in the presence of a 10% palladium catalyst on carbon. The hydrogen source (H2) is usually generated by the reaction of zinc metal with hydrochloric acid.

C19H36O2 + H2 --------> C19H38O2
(write "10% Pd, C" at the bottom of the arrow)
